About Us

S.O.C., Inc. Custom Building and Remodeling was formed by Grey Isley in 2006 to establish a premium construction and indoor environmental service company. It was apparent to Isley that there was a need for home and business owners to have a reliable and quality-oriented company that could provide for the majority of their construction and indoor environment needs. Through his previous years of work with homeowners, Grey discovered that in most instances, a homeowner had to call several people to service the different aspects of their home. Should a homeowner have the need for a minor repair, they had to call a handyman; if they needed a remodel they had to call another company; and if they had an indoor environmental problem, they had to call a third. In the rare instance that they could use one company to cover more than one of their needs, they were berated with several managers, varying quality, and often long waits between projects.

It is the goal of S.O.C., Inc. Custom Building and Remodeling to provide a one-call solution for a home’s and business’ construction and indoor environmental needs. By establishing a system in which there is one contact within the company to manage all of your needs, S.O.C., Inc. Custom Building and Remodeling is able to prevent your job from falling through the cracks and limit the amount of downtime between project segments. Above all, we strive to provide quality craftsmanship and change any negative stereotypes that have been applied to contractors.

About the Owner
Grey Isley has always been interested in the elements and construction of various things, remembering various projects in which he’d find an interest from a very young age. Grey has worked in various areas of construction and contracting since 2002 – and has understood and promoted environmentally efficient building practices since well before it became today’s catchphrase. The advantage? He is always focused on furthering his education – taking classes, gaining additional relevant certifications – and knowing the science behind the practice, which is something his competition rarely does.

Grey’s dedication to this field also shows through his formal education; he has a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural and Environmental Technology from North Carolina State University, and has put in multiple hours towards his Master’s in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in Environmental Engineering and Waste Water Management. He has also attained the following formal certifications:

  • Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE)
  • Certified Mold Remediator (CMR)
  • Certified Radon Measurement Provider
  • HERS Rater
  • Healthy Built Home Independent Inspector (provisional)
  • NAHB Green Building Verifier
  • Advisor to IAQA Conflict of Interest Special Committee
  • N.C. Licensed General Contractor (Qualifier)
  • N.C. Licensed Home Inspector

About the Company Name – What’s S.O.C., Inc. Custom Building and Remodeling?
When forming S.O.C., Inc. Custom Building and Remodeling, Grey wanted the company name to personify his desire to provide quality work, his love of the job, and the strong ethics that had been instilled in him by his family. Many names were considered, such as Isley Construction, CGI Contracting, and CG. Isley Services, but none of them embodied the experience he wished people to have when using his company. Finally, he decided on the name S.O.C., Inc. Custom Building and Remodeling – though an acronym, to Grey there is a lot of sentiment behind it – standing for Son of Cotton, named in memory of his father, Larry “Cotton” Lee Isley, Sr. His father passed away while Grey was young, but he instilled in Grey the importance of good work, precision, and most of all, integrity. Larry Isley was a patternmaker by trade (for those not familiar with this trade, it is making models out of wood, plastic, metal, or other substances that allow for a cast to be made in sand, which in turn is used to create a final product by pouring metal into the cast). His work required extreme skill with wood and machinery.

To Grey, using S.O.C., Inc. Custom Building and Remodeling is a daily reinforcement of the level of high-quality work, personal care, and ethical standards that has been instilled in him by his father.
